About Ethylene Glycol

Ethylene Glycol, also known as Monoethylene glycol is dihydroxy alcohol with a chemical formula C2H6O2. It is a colorless, odorless, sweet-tasting, toxic chemical. Ethylene glycol is produced from ethylene, via the intermediate ethylene oxide. Ethylene oxide reacts with water to produce ethylene glycol.

Ethylene glycol is widely used in many commercial and industrial applications including antifreeze and refrigerants. Its most common use is as an automotive antifreeze. It is used as an ingredient in printing inks, paint solvents and hydraulic fluids.
